We did a thing! || Gallery Opeing

My buddy, Yvonne and I collaborated a gallery opening to honor our beloved friend, Alyssa.  Alyssa and her unborn daughter, Sutton were taken to early on a cold December morning in 2014. I struggled thru grief and heartache and inside that sadness, Mother & Daughter was created. With encouragement from each other and our loved ones,                          Yvonne and I did it!

You’re Pretty!

Thank you WHCC & Perfect Posters for your generous sponsorship. Thank you Q.arma Building for your encouragement and the experience. Thank you Wild Acorn for seeing a vision and contributing your woodworking talents. Thank you to everyone that participated in the creation of Mother & Daughter, without you my story would have never been told. And thank you to all that attended, we are so humbled by the kindness and feedback from you all!

Putting it all together

It’s the wee hours of the night. The glow of my office light hitting the dark silence on my house, sweet banjo riffs spewing out of my speakers and I’m laid out on the floor with portraits, magazines, pinterest quotes and scissors. I am directing.
Late night thoughts // the wind down
I am directing a life that provides a path of creativity and exploration.  I will never have the same schedule everyday, I will embrace change, I will lead as a role model for a younger generation of women,  I will create.

Woman on the street | #travelphotography

I remember being 17 years old and someone telling me about the Gum Wall in Seattle, WA.  Why that’s the one thing that suck with me, I will never know.  It feels fucking great to cross this moment off my Life List after 12 years of staring at me. Cheers to entering my Third Decade!

Top Five before 30 hits!

My husband is a year older than me.  All of my friends are older than me.  Steve will turn 30 in January and all of our friends are starting to turn 30 this summer.  We’ve got a lot of parties come soon!  It got me thinking about my 20’s and what else I can do with my year and half left.  That then lead to a Top 5 list, Top 5 “things” I want to do yet in my 20’s.  I have thought long and hard about this.  Also I have thought long and hard about other Top 5 lists.  I will be sharing those too!

Top 5 to do before 30:

5. Visit the Pacific North West.  Oregon, Washington, Canada, oh my!

4. Take a road trip.  Longer than 4 hours with my husband and daughter, start making my bucket list.

3. Take a cooking class.  I will admit I am an ok to pretty good cook but I would like to learn something about cooking that I never knew.  Sushi?

2. Publish something.  Preferably a photograph of mine in any kind of publication.

1. Ride in a Hot Air Balloon.  Always wanted too, what’s stopping me?

Leave me some of your Top 5 items you would do or wish you would have done before 30.

another year younger

Tomorrow is my 28th birthday.  In years past I made a huge deal about “my” day.  I’d plan big events and extend the celebration for a week or two.  One year I did a 7 day celebration, I planned super fun things to do every night of the week and had huge weekend parties before and after my actual birthday.  It was so fun, I got to see friends that I hadn’t seen in a long time and got to visit some new restaurants around the Twin Cities.

Now I sit here and think about what I want to do tomorrow and I keep thinking about the birthday I spent in Arizona with my brother two years ago.  My best friend and I flew out for a long Memorial Day weekend.  On my actual birthday in Arizona I visited my favorite mall, ate at my favorite restaurant, had Sprinkles cupcakes for the first time and had a lovely dinner with my two favorite people, my friend and my brother.

There is something about being out of your comfort zone on your birthday, I was on vacation and having my favorite event of the year, how could it be bad?  It was the most relaxed, simple and pleasing birthday I had ever had and at the same time I believe it to be my best birthday I’d ever had!

Last year my birthday was spent celebrating the positive pregnancy test.  So this year I have decided I am going on a vacation, a stay-cation in my own Twin Cities.  I won’t be able to spend the day in the desert or eat Sprinkles Cupcakes but I will visit some places I have never been and spend it with my two favorite people, my husband and my daughter.

Birthday year 28 stay-cation photos to come…

A sister from another mister.

After only two months of knowing her we flew to Cancun, Mexico.  It was her first time flying and her first time ever leaving the mid-west.  I felt very “adult like” when taking her through the steps of researching hotels, buying a plane ticket & navigating the airport.

Once we were finally there all those “adult like” intentions sailed away in the Mexico breeze.  I was 20 years of age with a wild spirited, blonde by my side. I was ready to have fun and let my hair down… we did just that and a little more 🙂

Her and I have traveled a few more times together in our 8 year friendship but Mexico will always be the most special.  I hope to some day revisit these places we’ve been together but for now our biggest adventure we are sharing is motherhood.

Just give me one more London day.

It’s 6 years since I was in London.  I always get reminiscent about my time there around my birthday, I celebrated my 22nd year during my stay and I believe that will always be the year and the birthday that I will love the most.

When I can’t sleep, I drift back to my tiny little room that I shared with two other people.  The sounds of taxis cruising by, horns honking at bicyclists and the daily commute of the locals.  We lived 3 floors above a Starbucks so the smell of coffee awoke me every morning.  I can still feel Regents Park under my feet, the soft grass between my toes and the instant peace that filled my soul when I entered the beautiful park.  I remember thinking all I wanted was to bring my family back someday and lay in that very spot.

The night life was anything but boring and the pubs were loud and cheerful.  Football on the TV, rickety floor boards and english accents filled my head.  I learned more over wine in the Marylebone Tup, than I had in my prior 22 years.  Debate was encouraged and I never felt discouraged to have an opinion.  Topics of American politics, reality TV and comparisons of countries were always a good laugh.

I realized that I have documented a lot of things in my life that just sit on my hard drive… this is the kick off to my diary of photographs. ❤
